Background:
The Erin Go Bragh is certainly a cigar worth noting. In celebration of Irish culture, this well-aged mild cigar is infused with Irish whiskey. No, that’s not a typo. I’ve heard of pairing cigars with spirits before but I don’t think I have ever heard of actually infusing a cigar with liquor! Genius idea if you ask me.
Erin Go Bragh cigars are made in the La Aurora factory, the oldest factory in the Dominican Republic. Millions of high quality hand-rolled cigars are made in this factory (e.g. La Aurora Preferidos, CAO Flafours, Tatiana, etc) so you know you are getting high-class products. Just talking about it makes me want to light one up!
You know what, why not?
Pre-light:
At first glance the Erin Go Bragh is a firm long-filler cigar with perfect construction. The label itself is an eye-catcher. I’m a fan of the bright gold; it’s definitely a beautiful label that pairs nicely with the dark caramel color of the wrapper.
The Erin Go Bragh looks classy and has a faint smell of whiskey (surprise surprise!). I already think this is going to be quite a cigar…
First Third:
After I light the cigar and take the first few puffs, I immediately find the cigar has an easy draw and produces smooth, yet dense, white smoke. It is light enough to be your first cigar of the day, but will be equally as delicious and pleasurable as an after-dinner stick. It is very sweet and creamy with generous hints of toasty flavors. So far, this one is a keeper.
Middle Third:
The Erin Go Bragh burns perfectly even, no touch-ups necessary at this point—which I’m thankful for. I am sort of in a daze at this point because this cigar is pretty relaxing. The flavor palate changes slightly in this middle portion; I’m beginning to pick up crisp tobacco tastes that balance out the sweetness. The aroma is still pleasant and the ash is chalk gray, holding to about an inch.
Final Third:
As I get down to the end of this Erin Go Bragh the flavor is still mild but still developing. The slight hint of whiskey is ever-present (and it is delightful), and has been prevalent throughout the entire burn. For some reason, I keep thinking of St. Patrick’s Day.
I’m a fan of toasty flavors, and I’m beginning to pick them up again here toward the end.
The Verdict:
I thoroughly enjoyed the Erin Go Bragh cigar. It is a fine, strong cigar that stays firm throughout smoking. Every inch was a pleasure!
Phew, I feel slightly buzzed—but I can’t tell if it’s from the nicotine or the whiskey in the cigar! Maybe it is time for a nap…
