Well the New York football Giants won the Super Bowl and it is time to get the irons out for golf season, get ready for some NASCAR left turns and prepare for spring training in Major League Baseball. A good cigar to consider doing all this with is the GESVS (I should have warned you, I hate long names for cigars so there you go). It’s probably one of the better smokes I’ve had in a wicked long time. The GESVS comes with a “shaggy foot” where the
filler tobaccos hang out of the bottom of the wrapper. This is an old Cuban tradition and an excellent way to taste the filler tobaccos of a cigar without tasting the wrapper. This method leads to more of a complex version of an already delicious blend. While it is ugly as homemade soap, if you are able to find it, give it a try. While still just a babe in the cigar game, I often look for these types of sticks because it really helps you taste the difference in flavors a stick may have throughout.
When you burn one of these, I love the fact that you don’t have to “toast” it, while I love the process, it was refreshing to pull it right out of the cellophane and light it up. The flavor was good with notes of coffee and a little leather. The draw was firm but comfortable. The burn went back and forth from being straight as can possibly be to going off some but never needed correcting and it was actually fun to watch. Why that is I don’t know (maybe I was bored, remember – I have smokers ADHD). I found that it never stopped moving around. Once the ash got to the wrapper it was solid but ugly and lasted a little over an inch. I think it might have been a little over humidified
which is on me because I was trying to get a newly found humidor in order.
Now this stick comes in at around a premium price of $9.00 each at a lot of places, and I must admit, while it is fun to look at, constructed beautifully and tasty, if I pay more than $6 bucks for a cigar, I expect more complexity. (Good thing StogieBoys has them for under $5 a stick). Some like consistency, some complexity. I’m that guy. I tried pairing this one with a cola first, then as I normally do, paired it with water. On both occasions, the flavors remained the same. Final verdict, a good everyday cigar, but if you’re paying over $6 a stick for it, I’m not sure it’s worth that price because I for one, work for a living.

Rod, Great review! I also thought the whole shaggy foot thing was rather ugly, LOL (as homemade soap). I didn’t think this stick was anything special, got them as a gift a couple of years ago, probably wouldn’t have purchases these for myself either, I like a more complex cigar for $6+.
Nice review Rod. I had one of these a few months back and agree with you. It was an enjoyable stick, not worth $9 a stick, but if you can get it for under $5, you won’t regret it. It had a nice toasty flavor.
